HTC Salsa

The HTC Salsa reviewed here is a 3.4-inch touchscreen Android phone, offering mid-range specs, wrapped in HTC’s usual design, both in terms of bodywork and interface. It wiggles somewhat awkwardly into a line-up of 2011 HTC Android smartphones that offers a huge range of options, the HTC Salsa partnering the QWERTY HTC ChaCha phone in offering a dash of Facebook branding, and lying somewhere just above the HTC Wildfire S in terms of specs.

Power on the HTC Salsa and you are greeted with a customised version of HTC Sense running on Android 2.3.3 (at the time of writing). Hats off to HTC for supplying a mid-range device with an up-to-date version of Android, something that other manufacturers haven’t all succeeded in doing. In terms of Sense, the phone purports to offer Sense 2.1, a number that means little as the Salsa has customisations to support the Facebook functionality and also offers a new customisable lockscreen which is a very welcome addition, meaning you can choose up to four applications that you can directly unlock the phone to - Facebook, Camera, Google Maps, SpotifyT

    Canon power Shot G11

Canon has taken the bold step of reducing the megapixel count for the latest camera in its G-series. its down form 14.7MP to 10MP, but with the available light shared between fewer pixels, the result is less grain, especially in darker conditions. that will please the serious snappers the G11 is aimed at. they will also appreciate the direct access to manual controls. it is a bloater in this company (partly thanks to its flip - out LCD) . but it is slightly less knobbly than its G10 forerunner. this kind of control and quality in a compact is hard to resist.

    Price 31,995

Killer feature A level of control to worry an SLR, but in a compact body

    Panasonic Lumix FT2

A rugged camera that doesn't look like a toy? it's true, although you can choose from a range of shouty color schemes. locks on the flappy bits keep water and dust at bay, and its not fazed by a 10m dunk or icy weather. Usability and picture quality are great.

    HTC Gemstone

What if HTC started making luxury smartphones? Designer Sylvain Gerber sees this as possible and proves with a brand new concept phone, the HTC Gemstone. This is an Android phone with an AMOLED screen and borrowing design elements from HTC Touch Diamond 1 and 2.

The metal shell at the back and overall look of the device make it a luxury item and we wouldn’t be surprised if a gem or two made its way onto the handset. An animated graphic is engraved on the back of the smartphone, resembling the shape of gemstones. Pretty neat, right?

    HTC Wildfire

HTC isn't lagging behind and is out with a sizzling device-the Wildfire S. The name suggests it is the successor to the Wildfire but it looks smart and different. Usually, compact phones have small displays but this one boasts a regular 3.2 inch capacitive display.Although, the display looked small, accessing applications was easy.Initially, typing over the onscreen QWERTY keypad was a bit difficult but very soon we got used to it.The compact  size was complemented by clean looks. Below the Gorilla Glass display are the four touch keys-home,option,back and search. The 3.5mm jack along with the power key was placed on the top whereas the volume key and charging jack were on the left panel. Running on the Android v2.3, the Wildfire has a 600MHz processor clubbed with a 512MB RAM. Onboard  are basics including Google Services, HTC Hub, news and wheather, Quick Lookup, Voice recorder, etc. The 5 MP onboard camera churns out average pictures and the phone does not support 720p video capture either.

    HTC EVO 4G

The HTC EVO 4G, launching from Sprint today, is the first WiMax-enabled phone available to U.S. consumers. It has a 4.3-inch display, a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, 8 megapixel camera and 1.3 megapixel forward-facing secondary camera, and 3G/4G mobile hotspot capability, all running on Android OS 2.1.
